Four candidates who were travelling on Saturday to write the UTME/JAMB examination died in an accident which occurred on Ahoada-Abua road in Rivers, a witness and the police said.
The witness said the victims were travelling from Yenagoa to their centres in Abua, Rivers.
The witness said a taxi cab coming in the opposite direction had overtaken another vehicle but lost control and collided with commercial motorcycles conveying the candidates.
He said that the accident occurred between 6a.m. and 7a.m. and the remains of the deceased taken to the morgue at Abua General hospital.
When contacted, the Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Eguaveon Emokpai, told NAN on telephone that he was not aware of the accident since it was not within his jurisdiction.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers, ASP Ben Ugwuebulam, confirmed the deaths and said two persons had been admitted in Teme Clinic, Port Harcourt, for treatment.
Ugwuegbulem said the injured persons were in critical conditions.
It was learnt that some of the candidates going to Abua for the examination rode on commercial motorcycles from the Ahoada junction on the East/West road because of the scarcity of taxi cabs.
