Boko Haram Attacks Police Station, Bank, Kills Two In Borno

Shettima-okA GANG of suspected Boko Haram gunmen   yesterday attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters and  a new generation bank in Askira town of Borno State , killing a police officer and another person.

The bandits who came in two Golf Volkswagen vehicles , also  set the station ablaze with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and carted  away undisclosed amount of money from the bank.

An eyewitness and resident of Askira, Yunusa Ibrahim said: “They only targeted the police station and the commercial bank, they did not attack any place of worship or any group of persons aside those whom they thought wanted to stay in their way.

Even in the bank hall, we heard that they only beat up customers and went for the cash. Except for two people they killed whom we don’t know whether they were security men or customers, their target was money.”

He said the attack, which was an  unusual incident in Askira threw residents into panic as they had to scamper for safety, leaving the streets deserted for the entire day.

He said during the attack on the police station, a police officer was killed and few others sustained injuries.

Confirming yesterday’s incident, the Borno State Police Command’s  spokesman, Samuel Tizhe said: “We heard of the incident  in Askira town by unknown gunmen this afternoon. The details of the attacks are yet to be sent by the Askira divisional police officer to us.”
