Abia stops revenue collection on highways

REVENUE collectors have been directed by the Abia State government to stay away from state and federal highways in carrying out their duties.

Transport Commissioner, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, gave the directive when he assumed duty on Monday and warned operators of illegal motor parks in the state to move into approved areas. He vowed to deal with persons or organisations that would disregard the order.

Ukpai told journalists that the illegal acts caused avoidable accidents and embarrassed the state as well as obstruct traffic flow.

“Anybody who wants to be a dissident will be treated as one, there is no room for indolence in our line of duty,” he declared.

The commissioner specifically warned touts in the state to quit all state and federal roads “unless they choose to relocate to prisons by flouting the order.”
