Police arrest alleged kidnappers, others in Delta

IN its crusade against the men of the underworld, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended five alleged kidnappers, six armed robbers and one cultist in the last two weeks.

Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Ikechukwu Ayo Aduba, who disclosed this yesterday in Asaba, told reporters that a kidnapped victim, Mr. John Palmer, was rescued by the police from the kidnappers’ den on April 19 in Isiokolo.

He also stated that the bandits, who abducted Mrs. Zokumor, the younger sister of Elder Godsday Orubebe, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, were arrested on April 21 at Effurun, near Warri.

For the criminal act, Aduba said one Mathew Oshevere and Okemute Akpoca were nabbed while trying to collect a N500,000 ransom.

Two other suspects, Paul Enekene and Ese Johnson, were also picked up based on the confession of Oshevere and Akpoca.

The Delta police chief said Odika Uche, a suspected cultist and a 200 level Political Science student of the Delta State University, Abraka, was arrested by the police at Abraka after the police received information on a planned violent attack by the Vikings Secret Cult.

When he was searched, Aduba said an Italian pistol and five rounds of ammunition were found on the suspect who has since been arraigned in a court.

The police commissioner said the spates of armed robberies and kidnappings have reduced considerably in the state following his command’s “dogged fight against the men of the underworld.”
