Kaduna Flood Victims To Get 40 Truckloads Of Grains

Good times are around the corner for victims of the recent flod disaster in Kaduna state as 40-truckload of grains meant for them will soon arrive  for distribution.

This was revealed by governor Patrick Yakowa at a workshop organised by Chamber of Commerce, Industry,  Mines  & Agriculture in collaboration with Bank of Agriculture, on Tuesday. He said the grains were coming from the Federal Government.

The governor also disagreed with exaggerated reports on the level of flood destruction in the state, saying the damage particularly to crops, was not up to one per cent as had been reported .

He added that both the state and  the Federal Government planned to assist victims with free  seeds and fertiliser.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ibrahim Giwa who represented the governor, said, “I must tell you that there is unnecessary exaggeration on the damage caused by flood in Kaduna State. The way the press or whoever is talking about the effect of flood is far higher than what is actual. The crops lost to flood in the state are not up to one per cent.

“When you look at the effort made by government in giving farmers free seeds, and you calculate the additional  seeds, it will compensate what is lost.

“And when you put the total seeds and  fertilisers support the Federal Government and the state have provided, the estimated addition to domestic food supply is 8.2 million metric tons.  But that does not mean that there were no victims, or that no farmer was affected.”
