The management of Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, Alimosho, Lagos, has called all the youths in the council to harmonize their carnivals this year, in a bid to guide against the crises that usually end street carnivals in the area.
Speaking during a peace and security/youth meeting at the council secretariat, the council boss, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Mafe said the youths can agree to do the carnival collectively or the LCDA bans it.
According to the council boss, if all the youths in the area agree to come together and have the street carnival done on a single day instead of having it in groups, the council will provide them with adequate security.
“What we are talking about here has to do with the protection of lives and properties. We are not saying they should not hold their street carnival but what we want them to do is to come together and do it on a single date.
“Sometimes, the hoodlums, miscreants and street urchins usually hijack this so-called carnivals and use the opportunity to break into shops, loot them, rape and maim innocent citizens in the process.
“If they can come together and do it, the council will mobilise all the security network in this LCDA for that purpose. Therefore, it is either they comply with the directive or we place a ban on it,” he said.
