In senseless display of power and conduct unbecoming of a public official, the Ondo state commissioner for transport, Mr. Nicholas Tofowomo, yesterday openly landed slaps on the face of a director in the ministry of works, Mr. M.J. Afeniforo over a seeming non-issue.

Mr. Tofowomo had reportedly approached the director for a tractor but was told the tractors were already on various sites in the state. It was further reported that Afeniforo told the commissioner to call the commissioner for works, Gboye Adegbenro for confirmation since he was aware of the development. Rather than call to verify what he was just told, Mr. Tofowomo allegedly told his colleague that the director had diverted the tractors to his (director’s) home town. A lie which did not go down well with Afeniforo.

For daring to correct the commissioner’s bare-faced lie, Afeniforo was dealt several slaps – an attitude sources in the ministry said had become synonymous with Tofowomo. The development sent ripples among workers of the ministry who trooped out in their numbers to protest the abuse and injustice meted out on their senior colleague and the commissioner sensing danger, ran away.

The situation which was quickly highjacked by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), was however brought under control following the quick intervention of the chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council, Mr. Solomon Adelegan, who sued for calm.

Efforts to get the reaction of the commissioner involved proved abortive as calls put through to his line were not answered.

  1. It is God that brings somebody from dust to grace.the position u find urseif it is not by ur might but God doing.
A slave can become king that it my God for u.and a rich man can be made poor by God. It is very on civilised for somebody in a position to exhibit a beastial traits by slapping a colleague in d office simply because he is in position of authority. What does he think will become of him after living d office. My advice for d government of d day, is that whoever that take up a job with them. Most be thoroughly scrutinized morally, mentally, physically, and medically to avoid the repeat of the animalistic action of Said commissioner of ondo state.
