FEC Approves N47.8bn For 13 Road Projects Nationwide •As Reps Give Nod To N259bn FCT Budget

FECThe Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction, rehabilitation and reconstruction of 13 road projects across the country worth about N47.8 billion.

Briefing state house correspondents at the end of the weekly FEC meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, flanked by his counterparts; the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen; Minister of Mines and Steel, Mohammed Sada and the Minister of  Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, said the council approved the ratification of President Goodluck Jonathan’s earlier anticipatory approval for the award of contracts.

This followed a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Works, which sought for the council’s ratification of the president’s anticipatory approval for the contract awards worth N47,813,407,007:35.

The contracts, which are in two categories, he stated, included contract for the rehabilitation of Vandeikya-Obudu Cattle Ranch road Phase 1in Benue State in favour of Messrs CCECC (Nigeria Limited) in the sum of N3,296,177,230.50 with a completion period of 12 months.

Also, the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, unanimously passed for the second reading, the sum of N259.7 billion being the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja’s expenditure for the 2013 financial year.

Further breakdown of the budget showed that N48.03 billion was for personnel costs, N55.9 billion for overhead costs and N155.8 billion was for capital projects.

The FCT appropriation bill was introduced for debate by the Leader of the House, Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola, who urged her colleagues to support the passage of the budget, stressing that the quick passage of the budget would help “FCT administration to realise its development plans for the capital city.”
