In the latest reactions to the Federal Government’s decision to pardon former Bayelsa state Governor, DSP Alamieyeseigha, the United States Mission to Nigeria, via its Twitter page has criticized the move, saying it is a setback in the fight against corruption in the country. Referring to the pardon, the US Embassy, through its Twitter handle @USEmbassyAbuja, said:
“The #USG is deeply disappointed over the recent pardons of corrupt officials by the GON. #Nigeria”. (USG meaning United States Government, and GON meaning Government of Nigeria).
A second tweet read: “We see this as a setback in the fight against corruption. #Nigeria”
The United States Government also released a damning statement surrounding the high level of insecurity in Nigeria. The statement said the Nigerian government was demonstrating a “lack of political will” to fight insecurity in the country.
It will be recalled that Alamieyeseigha is still wanted in the United Kingdom for money laundering offences.
let no one be deceived, the govt of nigeria is not waging war against corruption. at best we can refer to the perceived ‘war’ against corruption as a selective one, aimed at opponents of the administration.
Shame on goodluck jonathan & his co-hurts for their days are numbered.
Corruption s d second name of PDP let us all join forces to bring them down.
we should not see the pardon granted to former Bayelsa state governor DSP Alamiesieyeigha as the first pardon that nigeria has ever witness & mr president was’nt the first person to grant pardon in nigeria, retweet mr twitter
