Manchester City are one step closer to securing an automatic Champions League spot with a 2-1 win against West Ham on Saturday.

The match started with a touching tribute to late Cameroon midfielder Marc- Vivien Foe who played for both clubs before his tragic death 10 years ago. An image of Foe was displayed on the electronic board at the Etihad after 23 minutes and fans of both clubs joined in a minute’s applause for the Blues’ former No. 23.

Sergio Aguero got the first goal for the home team after a well- worked passing move and Yaya Toure fired a stunner into the corner of the net from just outside of the box late on to extend City’s lead.
Andy Carroll got a consolatory goal for the Londoners in the stoppage time when his firm shot rolled through Joe Hart’s legs.
Manchester City now leads 3rd- placed Arsenal- due to play Manchester United on Sunday- by 8 points, having gathered 71 points from 34 games.
4th- placed Chelsea trail Roberto Mancini’s men by 9 points with five games in hand including Sunday’s match against Swansea.
City dominated the early stages of the West Ham clash and Aguero hit the woodwork with a scuffed shot before making the 28th minute breakthrough.
A series of short passes which involved Toure, Nasri, Silva and Aguero led to the Argentinean’s goal.

In the 83rd minute, Ivory Coast midfielder Toure blasted past West Ham’s goalkeeper to record City’s second goal of the match.
Striker Andy Carroll scored West Ham’s only goal in the stoppage time to pull one back for the Hammers.
