In a recent development from Old Trafford, Manchester United winger Ashley Young will remain on the sideline for the rest of the season, Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed.
The 27- year- old hurt his ankle in the derby against Manchester City on April 8 with Ferguson initially hoping the injury would keep the player out for a few weeks.
After visiting a specialist in London, tests have revealed that the damage is more extensive than originally thought.
“Ashley is out for the season,” Ferguson told MUTV. “It’s unfortunate and it’s a bad blow.
“We thought it’d be maybe two or three weeks but now he’s been down to the specialist and that’s why you saw him at the game on Wednesday.
“We took him down to a specialist in London and the prognosis was not very good at all. We’re going to lose him for the rest of the season.”
The player has made seventeen starts and two substitute appearance for the Manchester club in this season’s Barclays Premier League campaign due to several injuries.
It is not known whether Young will be available for England friendlies against the Republic of Ireland on 29 May and Brazil on June 2nd.
