Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 1- 0 as the Golden Eaglets failed to replicate the form against Ghana on Wednesday in the ongoing CAF Under- 17 Championship in Morocco.
The result means Cote d’Ivoire are top of group B on four points, Nigeria are second on three points, while Ghana and Congo play in the late game of the draft.
The Ivoirians scored at the nick of regular time through substitute Niamgbo after skipper Musa Muhammed carelessly lost the ball close to the 18- yard box. Nigerian goalkeeper Adeyemi Adewale failed to deal with the cross before Ahissan cut the ball out for the scorer.
The Ivoirians were played well when compared to the Golden Eaglets who couldn’t get a shot on target throughout the first half.
Ahissan, who tormented the Nigerians throughout the proceedings, almost broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, but failed to hit the target from 12 yards when he was left free.
Bakayoko almost put the Ivoirians ahead two minutes into the second half for his volley from 10 yards to hit the crossbar after beating Adewale in the Eaglets goal.
It took the Eaglets 58 minute to have a first shot on target when Awoniyi forced a save from Ivoirian goalkeeper Jagabate.
In the 77th minute, another enterprising shot from Bulbwa, 25 yards from goal hit the cross bar for a goal kick.
Tano was red carded for a second bookable offence after a foul on Success in the fourth minute of added time. Regardless, the Ivoirians went on to win the fixture 1- 0.
