The UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals Match Day 2

The 1st leg of the UEFA champions league quarter finals was concluded yesterday and we witnessed some exciting performances.
The Spanish champions Real Madrid ran out 3-0 winners at the Bernabeu, Their opponents Galatasaray were short of ideas as their ball possession and attacking always amounted to nothing. Madrid marshalled the midfield with likes of Alonso,Khedira and Ozil while Wesley Sneijder was found wanting and had to be substituted at half time.
Didier Drogba had a couple of chances on and off target but could not put the ball at the back of the net. Madrid opened the scoring when a Mesut Ozil accurate pass found Ronaldo who lifted the ball past the keeper into the net to put Madrid ahead . Eboue’s defensive lapses saw Benzema control a long Micheal Essien’s cross to score a second for Madrid before half time.
In the second half, Galatasaray lacked steam and confidence. They had no reply to going 2-0 down and the substitute Higuain scored his first champions league goal of the season after a Xabi Alonso’s freekick met his free header. Gala meanwhile rues some of the referee’s call after a hand ball offence by Khedira in the 18 yard box was left unpunished. Madrid are now in pole position as they travel to Istanbul with a 3-0 lead.
At the La Rosaleda stadium, it ended 0-0 as neither Malaga or Dortmund could find the back of the net. Despite the attacking prowess of Borussia, they found it difficult to break a confident Malaga side. They now have themselves to blame as the had the best chances of game but Lewandowski and Gotze couldn’t convert glorious chances. Malaga will be pleased with a draw because shutting out Dortmund’s attack is no easy fit.
Malaga’s defender Weligton and Manuel Iturra picked up a yellow for a challenge on Lewandowski and they will both miss the 2nd leg of the quater finals in Germany. Malaga will now travel to Westfalenstadion hoping to cause an upset while BVB will be looking to make good use of their home advantage.
