Death Toll In Nasarawa State Police Killing Rises To 30 – CP

Depressed-Police-officersThe Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale has confirmed that the bodies of 30 policemen killed on Tuesday by a militia group at Alakyo Village in Lafia had been recovered.

Akeremale, who was speaking on Thursday in Lafia, said that nine police patrol vehicles were also burnt, while some officers on the patrol team were yet to be found.

It will be recalled that Gov. Umaru Al-Makura told State House Correspondents on Wednesday that 20 policemen were killed in the attack.

Akeremale said that investigation was still ongoing to ascertain the whereabouts of other officers, who went on a rescue operation and were ambushed by the militia.

He said that no arrests had been made, adding, “but efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to book”.

“We believe that members of the group are still in the bush around the area, and we would do all we can to smoke them out,” the commissioner of police said.

Meanwhile, there are reports that sympathisers and relatives of the slain policemen thronged the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, on Thursday in search of the bodies of their missing relatives at the hospital morgue.

Most of the bodies brought into the hospital in 10 ambulances were burnt beyond recognition.

  1. Its high time the military, para-militry, and the police in the northern parts of this country gets combat ready at all times with best of weapon. Also the president should disolve the amnesty committee initially formed and declear zero tolerance to any act of terrorism in this country. What a shame to the so-called northern governors!!!

  2. Just last Tuesday Boko Harram attacked MOPOL base in Baga and wiped off all the about 30 Police Officers and several Prison Warders numbering about 20 without survivors and then realeased about 200 prisoners. If not for the soldiers who arrived the scene and challenged them and killed 13 B.H. cultist and the rest flee though they lost 2 soldiers it would have been complete field day for the criiminals. And now again another sad incidence involving the Police casualty.More than 30 Police men including ASP who led the operation lost their lives. The NASS should investigate what actually happend in Nasarawa State and make recommendations.Meanwhile the State Police commissioner is suppose to resign first, yet he is there though he has failed. As if to say the killng of the first batch of the Police was not enough lesson, the second batch that went for rescue operation of their colleagues were further humiliated by the criminals. The Police lost 9 out of 11 vehicles. Why?Is it because the Police lack good arsenals(fire power) or lack of good training or logistics or strategy or morale or all the mentioned which the Police authorities should have ensured?Or could there have been an internal sabotage within the Police?Last time a team of Police men were unable to restrain B.H. member arrested for bombing a church in Suleja from escaping and it was found to be a sabotage. So long as the Police can not reshape their professionalism such incidence will continue. These Nasarawa criminals I believe that they had the effrontry to do what they did becase they think they will be granted amnesty and financial settlement in the long run.Nigeria should seriosly reconsider their steps on amnesty to such groups. The NIGER DELTA militants case is quite diffrent from these other armed groups that lack merit.Gbam!!
