Salon Coworkers Docked In Dubai Over Birthday Kiss

Kissing During Work

A manicurist and a hairstylist appeared in court, as they were busted exchanging kisses at a famous beauty salon where they worked although they claimed it was a happy birthday kiss.

The 28-year-old Jordanian hairstylist, Kish, claimed that he pecked his 27-year-old Moldovan manicurist, Opra, on her cheek because it was her birthday and was just ‘greeting and wishing her a happy birthday’.

“We did not kiss on the lips. That is untrue. I kissed her on the cheek because it was her birthday,” claimed Kish when he entered a not guilty plea before the Dubai Misdemeanour Court.

Opra also entered a not guilty plea. She denied hugging her former co-worker but admitted pecking cheeks with him in the mini-canteen of the beauty salon in October 2012.

According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said the couple exchanged lip-kissing.

The suspects’ lawyers asked the judge for permission to produce defence witnesses when the court reconvenes on Sunday.

A Filipina hairstylist testified that she spotted the couple exchanging lip-kisses a number of times at work.

“I spotted them in shameful and intimate situations several times at the salon. They used to hug and kiss. I informed my Jordanian supervisor and he warned them. While I was on my day off, I heard that they were fired because they were busted kissing in the kitchen. The supervisor also reported the matter to the police,” she claimed.

The supervisor, Mr Hamed, also claimed that he spotted the couple exchanging intimate kisses at work before he asked them to leave the salon.

Kish claimed to prosecutors: “The management lodged this complaint maliciously against me because I lodged a labour complaint after they failed to give me salary for two consecutive months. I only kissed my colleague because it was her birthday.”

Moreover Opra claimed: “Kish is my friend and coworker and he gave me a peck on my cheek. He is not my lover and I have a boyfriend outside work.”

If found guilty, Kish and Opra may be asked to pay fines in thousands of Dirhams.
