Chelsea FC have held talks with Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel about a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old Dutch footballer has met Blues coach Jose Mourinho and will return to the Dutch club on Thursday, when discussions will take place about his future.

Valued at about £8m, Van Ginkel is reported to be interested in playing first-team football and will want an assurance on that from the Portuguese.

Van Ginkel joined Vitesse’s academy as a seven-year-old in 1999 and came through the ranks before making his debut for the club in April 2010. He could as well make the Dutch national team squad for next year’s Brazil World Cup.

He was one his club’s star performers last season and was a regular, helping his club to fourth place in the Eredevise.

With John Obi Mikel linked with Galatasaray, Van Ginkel, whose current contract with Vitesse runs until June 2015, could become Chelsea’s scond signing of the summer following the arrival of Bayern Leverkuse forward Andre Schurrle.
