governor yari abubakarDozens of Gunmen yesterday stormed a Zamfara village and warned residents and the government against cutting down trees in the surrounding forest or face dire consequences.

The gunmen, it was reported, appeared in Bawar Daji village in Anka local government of the state.

Chairman of Anka local council, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Gado while addressing Journalists, said dozens of unidentified gunmen invaded the village and issued a stern warning to the village head that he should tell his people to stop encroaching into the forest.

He said, “They were about seventy and when they came about fourty of them headed to the village head’s house and issued the warning to him. They told him that they did not come to kill anybody but to pass a message to the whole community”.

Alhaji Gado further stated that about 30 of the gunmen stayed back on the edge of the village to prevent any of the villagers from tipping off the security agencies about their presence.

However, as the gunmen retreated, they took away some cattle.

“Before they left the community they carted away some herds of cattle in the police custody in the area. You know there are some handfuls of mobile policemen drafted to the area and some cows suspected to be stolen were in their custody and they took away the cows” he added.
