It’s been a year since the London 2012 Olympics and the 6-time gold medalist, who has been fond of arriving and parading around the track in an awe-inspiring attitude, laid down a marker ahead of next month’s IAAF World Championship in Moscow by running his fastest 100m of 2013. He would be going in to Moscow as the quickest man of 2013.

“It’s good to be back here,” Bolt said. “I’ve got a lot of love for the stadium and this crowd. It was nice to get the win and I’m confident going in to Moscow.”

Bolt’s season-long penchant for a reserved entrance had him arrive on a drivable rocket engine. Three hours later, the legendary Jamaican struggled to get off his block as against the fire-spitting noise of his entrance in what he described as a ‘horrifying’ start.

His reaction time of 0.175 and his pick up left him behind the fast-starting Kim Collins, but halfway through the sprint; the big man came storming through while others fell back. His flying finish took him across the line in 9.85secs.

America’s Michael Rodgers emerged runners-up in 9.98secs with Bolt’s countryman Nesta Carter third in 9.99secs. Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Collins slipped back to fourth.

Bolt’s slow start to the 2013 season may have waned, but the Jamaican believes there is much work to be done before Moscow.

“It (the start) was horrifying for me. I think it is just race rust and I just need to get a few races in. The round in the World Championships will help that and get my legs freer and a bit lighter.”

Great Britain’s new sprint sensation, Michael Dasaolu- the fifth fastest man of 2013- withdrew before the race as a precaution after feeling a tight hip flexor in warm-up.
