Olisa_MetuhAhead of the Special National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, erstwhile National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh has dared his opponents to run what he called an issue based campaign.

Metuh, who declared his intention to reclaim the position of spokesman for the ruling party, said that he was determined to contest fairly and to run a free campaign devoid of rancour.

In a statement by the Director General of Olisa Metuh Campaign Organization, Chief Okey Ezenwa, the group said that it had uncovered sinister plots by sponsored agents of the opposition to obtain spurious court orders questioning the eligibility of Metuh to seek re-election to the office he resigned from some few weeks ago.

He said, “We are ready for a free and fair contest and we challenge other aspirants to the position to run an issue based campaign and allow delegates to the special national convention of our great party to make an informed choice.

“The Olisa Metuh Campaign Organisation has received information regarding heinous plots by sponsored agents of the opposition to obtain spurious court orders questioning the eligibility of Chief Olisa Metuh to seek re-election into the office of National Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the forthcoming special national convention of the party.

“We have discovered that these enemies of democracy whose paymasters are very uncomfortable with Chief Olisa Metuh’s sterling performance as the National Publicity Secretary as well as his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party and its leadership are determined to use every means to stop his re-election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, as a Nigerian citizen, Chief Olisa Metuh is free and eligible to seek election into the office of the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP. Indeed there is a valid judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction affirming the eligibility of Chief Metuh to seek election into the said office and any other party position for that matter.

“We want to state categorically that Chief Olisa Metuh is in the race for re-election as the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and we are determined to contest fairly and to run a free campaign devoid of rancour.

“We are ready for a free and fair contest and we challenge other aspirants to the position to run an issue based campaign and allow delegates to the special national convention of our great party to make an informed choice.

“Finally, in view of the postponement of the special national convention, we will not be politicking until a new date is announced.”
