A gun battle between policemen and gunmen who attacked a bank and a police station, yesterday, in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State led to the death of a mobile Policeman and two teenagers, who were shot in the process. A female hawker also sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Bauchi, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Hassan Mohammed, said; “The gunmen stormed the town around 9 pm and attacked the Darazo Divisional Police Station and FirstBank, but the police repelled the robbery and burning of the Police station.
“There was a fight between the attackers and our men, but while we were exchanging fire with the hoodlums, a mobile Policeman was killed as stray bullets hit three young female hawkers. Two of them died in the hospital while the third is currently receiving treatment.”
According to him, the hoodlums fled after the attack. He also said the Police have commenced investigation into the incident, but no arrest has been made.
Chairman, Caretaker Committee Darazo Local Government Alhaji Kabiru Sade, who also spoke on the incident said normalcy had been restored and the situation was under control. He therefore advised people to go about their normal businesses.
