Wike/Amaechi Supporters Clash In Buguma As Minister Calls For Recall Of State Lawmakers Over Crisis

amechi-wikeWhat could have been a major disruption to the fragile peace in Rivers State was averted on Sunday when forces loyal to Governor Rotimi Amaechi and supporters of Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike, clashed in Buguma, Asari Torlu local government area of the state.

It was learnt that Wike, who was at Buguma to inaugurate the ward executives of his Grassroots Democratic Initiative (GDI), was mid-way into his speech when a group suspected to be supporters of the council chairman, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree and those of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Otelemaba Dan-Amachree invaded the venue and tried to disperse the gathering.

It took the timely intervention of the men of Joint Military Task Force stationed in the outskirts of the town, who moved in and brought the situation under control.

Earlier, speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Wike urged people of the State not to hesitate in recalling members of the State House of Assembly if they allow the House of representative take over their functions.

The Minister said the decision of the House of representative to take over the functions of the State Assembly was an indication that leadership in the State has collapsed.
