Kano Govt. Gives Contractor Two Weeks On Multi-Million Naira Water Project

kwankwasoKano State Government said on Tuesday it had given contractors laying water pipes from Challawa Water Treatment Plant to Gwauron Dutse Water Works two weeks to speed up work or have the contract terminated.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Yunusa Dangwani, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.

“You know this project is very dear to the government and people of Kano State,” he said.

Dangwani said the state government awarded the contract about 10 months ago to end the perennial water scarcity in Kano metropolis.

He said: “As a long term solution to perennial water shortage being experienced in the area, the state government decided to purchase 1,000 mm ductile pipes to be laid from Challawa to Gwauron Dutse to boost water supply in the metropolis.”

He lamented that the contract that was expected to be completed in the next four months, was only about 40 per cent executed.

“I am not really satisfied with the work being carried out and I told the contractor that within two weeks there must be appreciable progress, otherwise the contract will be terminated,” he said.

The commissioner said that officials of the ministry would continue to monitor the project, to ensure its speedy completion within the contractual agreement.

The contract was awarded at N140 million. (NAN)
