President Goodluck Jonathan said on Tuesday that his administration would continue to place high premium on peace and security in order to keep Nigeria one.

Mr. Jonathan made the remarks at the passing-out of Cadet ASPs 25/2012 and Cadet Inspectors 40/2012 at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, said the Federal Government would also continue to ensure peace and security for the economic growth and development of the country.

“This administration places high premium on peace and security in order to ensure development of our country and more importantly to keep Nigeria one,’’ he said.

He commended the Ministry of Police Affairs; Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar; and his management team; as well as the National Assembly committee chairmen on Police Affairs for their commitment to transform the Nigeria Police Force.

He stated the commitment of the Federal Government to provide the necessary support to the Academy to enable it to provide quality training to prospective cadet officers in the country.

“As you all pass out, I must let you know that our expectations are high. You are required to exhibit high sense of responsibility and be law-abiding at all times,’’ he emphasised.

The President also charged the cadet officers to rise up to the current security challenges and exhibit high leadership qualities wherever they might find themselves.

Earlier in his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police said the occasion marked another milestone in the police’s quest for professionalism and enhanced efficiency.

He commended President Jonathan for upgrading the academy to a degree-awarding institution, saying that fresh intakes would soon start academic activities.

‘’Henceforth, qualified high school-leavers will now be admitted for five-year degree programme in relevant disciplines and this will culminate into award of a Bachelor’s degree and commissioning as Cadet ASPs,” he said.

Mr. Abubakar urged the graduands to brace up and “be ready to meet the expectations of Nigerians by helping to reduce crime to the barest minimum.”

A total of 263 Cadet ASPs and 222 cadet inspectors passed out from the academy after the mandatory 18 months training.
