President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday accepted the resignation of Eze Festus Odimegwu as the Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), a statement said on Thursday.

The statement, issued signed by Mr Sam Nwaobasi, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said that in Odimegwu’s place, Dr Sam Ahaiwe, the Commissioner Representing Abia on the commission as acting chairman.

“His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, President, has accepted the resignation of Eze Festus Odimegwu as Chairman of the National Population Commission with effect from Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013,’’ the statement said.

It said that Ahaiwe would act pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.

Also, the president approved the appointments of Prof Anya O. Anya, as a member of the Advisory Committee on National Dialogue to replace Prof Ben Nwabueze, who is still abroad on health grounds and,

He also approved the appointment of Mr Pius Osunyikanmi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Technical Aids Corps,’’ the statement added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Odimegwu has been involved in a controversy over his comments on the conduct of the national census in 2006.

He was appointed chairman of NPC in June 2012 as replacement for Chief Samaila Makama. (NAN)
