We have all done it – had one drink too and many passed out – usually though we wake up either still at the party or on a train pulling into the last station.

Marek Michalski’s experience though was a little more sobering – he woke up in a morgue after paramedics, who were unable to find a pulse, thought he was dead.

The 56-year-old fell asleep on a bench in Piotrkow, Poland and worried passers-by called for an ambulance.

“I remember sitting on a bench and the next thing I woke up in a morgue,” he told local media.

The doctors at the hospital had planned to do an autopsy the following day, however when he woke up he managed to roll off the table and escape.

Mr Michalski now plans to take legal action against the hospital after suffering trauma from the incident.

He said: “Someone has to pay for this, I have nightmares now about being sliced up by doctors who don’t realise I am alive and want to do an autopsy.”

The hospital however believe their paramedics acted in the correct manner and staff responded to the threat of legal action by saying: “They believed that the man was dead and followed procedure by putting him inside a sealed bag.”
