Falconets Need to Toughen Up- Dedevbo

Falconets coach Peter Dedevbo is not yet satisfied with the quality of his team which thrashed Sierra Leone 10-0 in the first-leg of the FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup qualifier in Abuja.

Dedevbo said he is striving towards toughening up his side ahead of the return leg scheduled for November 9 in Freetown and most importantly to be battle ready for other big teams.

“I was not impressed with their game, I mean the way they played in the first-leg. Agreed that we scored a lot of goals, it was against a team that is not as good as us,” said the former U-17 women’s team coach.

“I want my players to raise their game, there has to be an improvement, because we will be meeting tougher teams along the line.”

The Falconets are expected to travel to Freetown on Thursday.

Dedevbo also clarified that the ultimate ambition of the team was not just to qualify for the World Cup billed for Canada on 19 August 2014 to September 8, but to lift the trophy as well.

The coach also looks to improve on the team’s record in their previous outing, a forth-placed finish- then under the tutelage of coach Edwin Okon.

The African qualifiers for Canada 2014 is a two-legged affair which runs between September 2013 and January 2014. Two spots at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup are up for grabs.
