How Maina’s Wife Evades Arrest for Beating Up Husband’s Female PA

The embattled wife of the former director of the Police Pension Funds, Dr. Abdulrahman Maina, Hajia Liela Maina, evaded arrest on October 31, 2013, after not showing up for interrogation in the case of alleged assault levelled against her by her husband’s Personal Assistant, Mercy Bala.

Miss Bala had reported Hajia Maina to the Life Camp Police Station on Wednesday, accusing Leila of battering her with the help of Dr. Maina’s cousin, one Hauwa Maina over suspicion that Mercy was sleeping with Dr. Maina.

She also accused her assailants of confiscating her bag which contained two handsets and N200,000, among other items.

When the police detectives visited the Maina residence to submit a letter inviting Hajia Lielia to the police to give a chance to state her own side of the story, the security personnel guarding the residence denied them entry and refused collecting the invitation letter on behalf of Lielia.

LEADERSHIP also reported that Dr. Maina himself, in a swift move to settle the case outside the law, paid a sympathy visit to the Area 11 residence of Mercy where he was said to have apologised on his wife’s behalf and promised to return all her items that were confiscated by her assailants.

According to a source close to Mercy, Maina returned Mercy’s two handsets and offered the sum of N220,000 to replace Mercy’s missing N200,000 and her handbag.
