Teenager Remanded In Prison For Shooting 6-year-old To Death

A 19-year-old man, Kashi Kaye has been remanded in Oba Prison by a Magistrates’ court sitting in Abeokuta for allegedly killing a six-year-old boy by shooting him with a dane gun.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini told the court, yesterday, that the offence was committed on August 17 at about 1 p.m. at Ojebiyi, Odedan, Abeokuta.

The accused was reportedly playing with the gun which, unknown to him was loaded but, suddenly tampered with the trigger and accidentally shot one Lateef Popoola who was coming back from the school dead.

According to Ozimini, the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The court rejected Kaye’s plea on the charge of manslaughter because he was not represented by a counsel.

Adjourning the case till December 6, the Magistrate, Mr. Emanuel Adekunte remanded the accused in Oba Prison till the next court sitting.
