Following its call for a political ceasefire so that Nigerians could enjoy the yuletide celebrations in peace, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, renewed its war of words with the opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, calling on its members to purge themselves of what it described as their “evil machinations”, against the country.
PDP said that APC was promoting violence, divisions and blood-letting across the country, adding that these were designed to make the people lose faith in the Nigerian project as well as set the ground for what it described as massive mayhem, blood-letting and ultimate balkanization of the country.
The party, however, pleaded with Nigerians to always rise up in defense of the unity of the country.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, PDP said “Now that an Islamic cleric, Ambassador Yusuf Garba and the Religious Equity Promotion Council, REPC, have exposed the evil plot by the APC to balkanize our nation along religious lines by imposing an Islamic agenda just like the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, the PDP wishes to make it manifest to all Nigerians to stand up and resist this evil machination by enemies of our dear country.
“This revelation which came even from Muslims goes to vindicate the PDP and confirm our earlier stand that the APC is a party of blood thirsty, religious and ethnic bigots averse to the unity of the country and the peaceful co-existence of our people.
“This explains the reason the APC has been promoting violence, divisions and blood-letting across the country; which are all aimed at making the people lose faith in the Nigerian project; set the ground for massive mayhem, blood-letting and ultimately balkanize our country.
“Nigerians are now no longer at a loss on the real reason the APC has been desperate to hold power. They now know why they have been moving round the country organising protests and investing in planting seeds of discord and disagreements among the people using their stock-in-trade of propaganda, deceit, falsehood and doomsday prophesies.
“This revelation also explains why they have been arming thugs to disrupt electoral processes. A case in point being the importation of hundreds of armed thugs to disrupt the Anambra State governorship election last December; but for the police which arrested some of the thugs, the APC would have unleashed mayhem on the state and used it as a test for its larger plan in the 2015 general elections.
“We are happy that Nigerians are no fools. Genuine Muslims know that Islam stands for peace. Therefore, any attempt to use religion to divide the country must be resisted. We thank Nigerians, especially true Muslims for exposing and rejecting the APC and its devilish plot. Now that their plot has been exposed, we advise the APC to retrace their steps and purge themselves of their evil machinations”.
Describing the PDP as a party that belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and a representation of the country’s unity, Metuh further said, “In the PDP, it is our unshakable creed that Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians irrespective of religious, tribal, ethnic or regional affiliations. This country belongs to Muslims, Christians and members of other religious persuasions alike and our people are free to live and work in any part of the country and aspire for any office irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliations.
“The PDP remains committed to the national unity as encapsulated in our manifesto and the ideals of our founding fathers and on that note will resist anything that seeks to balkanize our country and cause divisions among our people.
“The PDP is a party that is built on the principles of freedom, equality, justice and service. In this great party, considerations are not made based on religious, tribal or ethnic interests… interest.
“We therefore call on all Nigerians to stand up and defend the unity of our dear nation and resist attempts by the APC to destroy our common heritage as a people”, Metuh added.
we now kno that Yusuf Garba is working for PDP and we kno that he is not a Muslim but bearing muslim name to decieve people. nemesis will catch up wt him for using religion to divide the country and make mockery of genuine effort to bail out the country from thieves and rogues in PDP who do not hav the interest of the people at heart.
Olisa Metuh, don’t you think this is too simplistic? A man of ur standing and position should not resort to simplistic and cheap blackmail to score cheap political points . How can any educated person who is worth his education allege that or accept that any religion whetther Islam or Christianity can be foisted on the country by any political party? Infact for anyone to allege this is to insult the sensibilities of that other religion on which another is to be foisted upon? Why Metuh, do you chose to insult the christians that APC will foist Islam on Nigerians? Just because you and your party have run out of ideas on how to move this country forward and because you cannot stop the change that must come, you resort to religious sentimentss. Let me inform you sir: Nigerians are wiser than 2011 when you used the gimmicks of religious sentiments to divide this Country. What we want is good governance and performance and where we find that even a pagan will provide this for Nigerians, we will vote the pagan. PDP and its members have loosed comtrol already, and that is why you are making such dubious and irresponsible divissive words because you are out of control. This method or idea cannot save PDP from falling. Just start hiding your self as the time for a change and a better Nigeria has come. It is a big shame and a slap on the face of PDP for its inability to provide the necessary needs for Nigerians, leaving its citizens with un-employment, insecurity, lack of electricity poor education amongst others, after 13 consecutive years of leadership. Making Nigeria an islamic state began with Buhari, consolidated by both IBB and the yerima. I am a muslim from sokoto. I has been resovled that theough Apc Nigeria will emerged an Islamic country.
