beggers-kano-638x300Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano on Saturday appealed to Imams and other religious leaders in the State to support government’s crusade against street begging and child trafficking.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations to the Governor, Malam Halilu Dantiye, in Kano.

The statement said Kwankwaso made the plea at a meeting with members of Kano state Council of Imams at the Government House.

“He reminded the clerics that people relied heavily on their utterances more than any other persons.

“The governor stressed that no society would progress with a cross-section of them living as parasites.

“He also urged the Imams to advise parents to always keep their eyes on their children to prevent them from being unruly”.

The statement quoted Kwankwaso as also cautioning the religious leaders against engaging in politics.

“I am appealing to you to always offer constructive advice to politicians in order to serve the people better”.

Chairman of the Council of Imams, Sheikh Fadlu Danalmajiri, assured that members would cooperate in the execution of government policies that would impact positively on the life of citizens. (NAN)
