Piqued by what they described as the insensitivity of those they voted into office to their plight, the people of Southern Kaduna in Kaduna State on Thursday vowed that President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero will not get their votes in the 2015 general elections.

They premised their position on their allegation that Jonathan “has shown that he cannot do anything to stop the killings” of the people of the area.

It would be recalled that three villages of Ugwar Sankwai, Ungwar Gata and Chenshyi, all in Kaura Local Government Area of the state were penultimate Saturday invaded by suspected Fulani herdsmen, who left over 100 residents of the communities dead in their trail and property worth millions destroyed.

Speaking under the umbrella of Concerned Realists of Southern Kaduna, they expressed regrets that they wasted their votes on President Jonathan and other serving public office holders from the area but they said this will no longer be the case as “our votes will no longer be wasted in 2015”.

The group comprises lecturers, technocrats, retired military officers and retired civil servants that hail from the Southern part of the state.

The group’s position was made known by its spokesperson, Dr. John Fulani, at a press conference yesterday in Kaduna.

He said: “It is apparent that we have been targeted for persecution and extinction by powerful forces and the government under Ramalan Yero and Goodluck Jonathan appears unconcerned and or helpless and so does not deserve the votes of the bleeding Southern Kaduna people in 2015”.

He continued: “We cannot also be helpless and allow politicians take our existence for granted”, therefore, “We will mobilise our people to vote against Ramalan Yero and Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 as a protest for their insensitivity to the killings in Southern Kaduna and failure to honour our dead who have been slaughtered under their stewardship”.

As for the fate of elected representatives of Southern Kaduna origin, Danfulani said, “We would x-ray everyone starting from the Senator to the LG chairmen and councillors. No one should attempt to ask for votes if he/she cannot present our challenges to the government he belongs to. We would join hands with the youths and elders of good repute to renew and strengthen our commitment and faith in freeing our communities from extinction”.
