A New Jersey man convicted of beating up a double-amputee and stealing his wheelchair faces three years in prison, the Cape May County Herald reported Tuesday.

Joseph Devine, 56, was charged with aggravated assault and theft in March 2013, after a drunken fight at a bus stop in Middle Township with then-57-year-old Clark Williams.

The two men were arguing around 12:30 p.m., Shore News Today reported. Devine then beat Williams before making off with his wheelchair, checkbook and cash, according to NBC 40.

“He threw me into the seat at the bus stop and cracked my head open,” Williams told the County Herald. “He put a seven-inch gash in my head and I had to have 25 staples. I was in the hospital and I’ve been in a nursing home for a year now.”

Devine was convicted of one count of aggravated assault and theft.
