Akwa United extended their stay at the summit of the Glo Premier League on Easter Sunday, courtesy of a 1-0 win over defending champions Kano Pillars.
Nnamso Edo’s 60th minute strike made all the difference in the Match Day 7 rescheduled encounter played at a fully packed Uyo Township Stadium.
A heavy rain disrupted the game on Saturday before match officials, after due consultations, decided on the early hours of Easter Day.
The striker blasted a free-kick against the wall and, after some few ecxhanges in Pillars’ goal area responded quickly to curl the ball home from the edge of the box.
The goal increased Edo’s Tally to four so far in the ongoing campaign.
Pillars, who have now lost twice this season, failed to get off well against the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) team of the moment and when they did threaten at goal, met the resilient defence of the hosts.
United now leads the NPFL by 14 points from a possible 21, while Pillars have earned nine points from 18.
