Champions League Semi-Finals Draw: Bayern Gets Real; Atletico Hosts Chelsea

Real Madrid will host Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid hosts Chelsea in the semi-finals of the 2013/14 European Champions League.

Uefa Secretary General Gianni Infantino and former Portugal winger Luis Figo conducted the draw in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday noon.

The Champions League semi-finals games comes up on 22/23 April and 29/30 April with the last surviving Spanish representatives Real and Atletico playing at home in the first leg fixtures.

Bayern progressed to the last-4 of this year’s tournament with a 4-2 aggregate win over Manchester United, while Real Madrid were 3-2 aggregate winners against Borussia Dortmund over two legs.

Atletico Madrid knocked out fellow La Liga side Barcelona 2-1 on aggregate, and Chelsea progressed on away goal rule, after following up their 3-1 loss at Paris St-Germain with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

This year’s final comes up in Lisbon at the Estadio Da Luz on 24 May.

Bayern have met Real at this stage of the competition of five previous occasions with the Bavarians coming out on top in 1976, 1987, 2001 and 2012,and Madrid’s sole last-four victory being 2000.

The last time Chelsea played against Atletico, the Spanish club coasted to a 4-1 win in the 2012 Uefa Super Cup, Radamel Falcao scoring a hat-trick in Monaco. They also met in the 2009-10 Champions League groups stage. Chelsea beat Atletico 4-0 at Stamford Bridge and drew 2-2 in the return fixture in the Spanish capital.
