Nigeria Move Up Two Places in Latest Fifa Rankings

Nigeria have moved up to 45th in the latest Fifa world rankings, now rated the sixth best nation in the Confederation of African Football (Caf) zone.

The Super Eagles moved up two places from 47th last month and have now accrued 620 points.

In the top 10, Argentina have dropped three places to sixth with Portugal, Colombia and Uruguay all moving up to third fourth and fifth respectively. Brazil now shares the sixth position with arch rivals Argentina.

Teams in the top 50 remains as it were in previous edition with Uefa occupying an unparalleled chunk of 27 places, following by CONMEBOL and the CAF on eight, CONCACAF on five, the AFC on two and the OFC on zero.

Only six matches were played over the last month with most changes evident to the devaluation of matches- most of which were World Cup qualifiers- from the previous years.

Cote d’Ivoire still retains pole position in the Caf regional rankings followed by Egypt and Algeria.

Other teams in the Caf top ten are Ghana, Cape Verde Islands, Nigeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Guinea and Mali.

Nigeria’s highest ranking position since the creation of the world football’s ladder in 1993 was fifth place in April 1994- the highest ranking achieved by an African football team.
