A M’Chigeeng First Nation man told a cop he contemplated cutting off one of his hands to reduce the chances of committing another violent act, a court heard Friday.

Darrell Bebonang made the comments to Det. Const. Shannon Murray a day after he was arrested for the 2009 stabbing of a brother and sister in Sudbury.

The video was played at a hearing to decide whether Bebonang is designated a Dangerous Offender.

He said he was a good, honest person who would stop to help anyone in need.

Bebonang said he found it hard having to be a “tough guy” to survive while in jail, then get released and not having to be that person on the outside.

“I just say no (to trouble),” he said. “I walk away. (But) as soon as they put their hands on me, it’s hard to maintain control and I snap.”
