Chibok Girls Protest Ban: APC Hails IG, Calls For Mbu’s Sack

Bring-backThe Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Commissioner of Police in charge of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mr. Joseph Mbu, for banning ‘Bring Back the Girls’ protests in Abuja.

The APC, while commending the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, for over-turning Mbu’s ban on further protests connected with the Chibok schoolgirls in the nation’s capital, said the FCT police commissioner’s action was an embarrassment to the Nigeria Police.

The state chairman of APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, on Thursday, said that Mbu, who was the immediate past police boss of Rivers State, should be shown the way out before he dragged the name of the police deeper into the mud.

Ikanya stated that Mbu might have failed to inform the IGP of the decision to ban the Bring Back Our Girls’ protests before making the announcement, describing his (Mbu) action a show of disdain for good order, decorum and constituted authority.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has called for the immediate dismissal of Mr. Joseph Mbu, the controversial FCT Police Commissioner who on Monday banned the peaceful protests by the Oby Ezekwesili-led Bring Back Our Girls Coalition, only to be overruled by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.

“Mbu’s action is the height of embarrassment to the Nigeria Police and we demand that Mr. Mbu should be shown the way out of the force now before he drags the name of the Force deeper into the mud.”

“Mr. Mbu obviously did not clear with his superior, the IGP, a disgraceful action that illustrates his disdain for good order, decorum and constituted authority.”

“How on earth could CP Mbu outlaw the Bring Back Our Girls peaceful rallies aimed at awaking President Jonathan Goodluck and his Presidency from their slumber on the security challenges and the shame arising from the kidnap of over 250 of our girls and our future mothers by the evil-minded Boko Haram?

“Does it mean that Mr. Mbu does not know that peaceful protest is a right guaranteed all Nigerians by Nigeria’s Constitution?” the state APC chairman queried.

Ikanya, who went down memory lane when Mbu was still in Rivers State, said: “When we were shouting about the inimical acts of CP Mbu, nobody paid any attention, but as soldiers of democracy that we are, we continued to endure him until God in his wisdom touched the hearts of our tormentors to further expose him to the entire world by posting him to Abuja after being rejected by various State Governments.

“To us in Rivers State APC, CP Mbu is not expected to parade himself within a democratic set-up. CP Joseph Mbu, who had been lying low since he was posted out of Rivers State after holding the entire State to ransom based on his undemocratic acts and unprofessional policing, came back to life, once more exhibiting his hatred for normalcy and civilization by ordering the stoppage of peaceful rallies in Abuja”.

Commending the Police IG for reversing Mbu’s ban on Bring Back Our Girls rallies in Abuja, Ikanya called on the Police Service Commission, PSC, to either dismiss the police boss or post him to Borno State to help in tackling the menace of Boko Haram.
