Benue Workers Vow To Reject Slash In Take Home Pay

nlcimages.jpgFollowing purported plans by the Benue State Government to review downward, the salaries of civil servants, the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to resist the move with the last drop of their blood.

State chairman of the union, Comrade Simon Anchaver, who made the vow while speaking with reporters in Makurdi yesterday, stated that workers in the state would not accept the slashing of their salaries, noting that, “salaries are reviewed upward and not downward”.

Recall that the state government had decided to review downward the salaries of its work force so as to be able to pay primary school teachers’ salaries who, early this week, suspended their nine-month strike over non-implementation of new minimum wage.

Anchaver added that the state working committee of the union met and resolved not to accept the new policy of the state government to slash their salaries, warning that workers might be forced to down tools if government went ahead and implement the policy.
