Adamawa By-Election: Ag. Governor Picks Up Governorship Form

Ahmad-Fintiri-AdamawaThe Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has picked the declaration of intent form, which signifies his interest to contest the forthcoming Adamawa governorship by-election slated for September, 11, 2014.

He confirmed the development to journalists in Yola, the state capital yesterday, saying he is bowing to pressure from members of the public, who were satisfied with his performance within a short time-frame.

Fintiri, who was the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, was sworn-in as acting governor four weeks ago following the impeachment of former governor, Murtala Nyako.

The acting governor said he could not afford to let the people down or shun their appeal for him to join the governorship race of the state, hence his decision to pick-up the form with a view to bringing development to the state through responsible and accountable leadership.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God and I have no option than to succumb to the sustained pressure by the people of Adamawa to join the race. I am a grassroots politician, who has been in touch with the people since I join politics and all my actions has been guided by the people”, Fintiri said.

He pointed out that his “impressive achievements” within the short period he was made acting governor endeared him to the people of Adamawa State.

Fintiri’s pick up of the declaration of intent form puts an end to speculations surrounding his next political move after posters urging him to contest the by-election flooded the streets of Yola, although he distanced himself from the sponsors of the posters.
