Ekiti: NULGE Warns Members To Stay Off New Council Areas Over Unresolved Labour Issues

fayemiCouncil workers in Ekiti State have been directed to shun their postings to the 19 new local development council areas created in the state by the outgoing administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The Ekiti State chapter of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the umbrella body of local government workers, it was learnt gave the directive over unresolved labour issues between the body and state government.

The development may pose a major setback to the smooth take-off of the council areas as they cannot function optimally without administrative and other support workers to be provided by NULGE.

The NULGE President in the state, Comrade Bunmi Ajimoko, who confirmed the development, said the action was taken in the best interest of the workers and the state.

He said, “We are not opposed to the creation of new local governments or council, but certain issues must be resolved and clarified.

“The creation of new councils will, no doubt, mean more expenses on the part of the government. However, there are issues that the state government is yet to resolve with us. They border on welfare and condition of service.

“We recently cried out over the issues such as CONMESS, CONHESS among others. The state government has not resolved them and our members are still denied these benefits and you want them to go and be using their hands to make ways in the forest. We told our members not to go to these new councils until all outstanding issues are resolved”, Ajimoko said.
