Ghanaian Winger Christian Atsu to Join Everton

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says they have reached an “agreement in principle” to sign Chelsea’s Christian Atsu following weeks of uncertainties.

Reports have been rife in the English media that the 22-year-old Ghana international will join the Merseyside club on a season-long loan since last week, and the Spanish boss says it is subject only to final work permit confirmation.

“Everything has been agreed with Christian- it’s just a matter of finalising little details more with his work permit and personal situation,” Martinez is quoted as saying on the Echoe.

“That will probably take a couple of days to get sorted but we have an agreement in principle to make the move as a loan deal until the end of the season.”

The pacy winger featured on loan at Eredevise outfit Vitesse Arnhem last season but his parent club have decided it want him close to home to acclimatise with the English game.

Martinez was, however, subjected to lengthy discussions at Stamford Bridge, bent on convincing the Londoners that Atsu will play enough matches in the coming season.

Sunderland and Swansea had also retained interest in the left winger, who joined Chelsea from Porto on transfer deadline day last summer.

Everton are involved in Europe next season, and it is expected Atsu will get game time in the league as well.
