Osun Victory Has Given APC Opportunity To Thrive, Says Oyegun

APC5-OyegunNational chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described the party’s victory in last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State as another opportunity given to the party to thrive.

He made the statement at the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday at a brief ceremony organized for him by some officials of the party to mark his 75th birthday.

Mr. Oyegun said the re-election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola is a demonstration of the confidence the people of the state have in his administration and the belief of the APC as a party in the welfare of the people in providing the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

He stressed that the victory signals the beginning of better things to come as the party strives to ensure its victory in the 2015 general elections just as he called on members of the party to maintain their stand on the upliftment of democratic tenets to safeguard the survival of Nigeria’s democratic structures from destructive tendencies.

“What happened in Osun at the weekend has proven the deep rooted commitment of people to ascertain their right of choice and resist imposition in Nigeria’s democracy and that is what our party stands for. Nigerians should value their freedom and protect their rights. The ballot box is more than enough to bring the needed change. People need genuine democracy not a deceptive slogan being peddled by the PDP”, he said.

The APC national chairman said the era of political brigandage and rigging should have been a thing of the past had the PDP allowed people to exercise their rights without intimidation or manipulation of the electoral process since 1999, which according to him, has been the greatest challenge to the country’s democracy.

He vowed that APC will never let Nigerians down in their quest for liberation from tyranny by an inept leadership bent on further impoverishing them in the face of concocted economic prosperity and pervading insecurity of lives and property which the ruling PDP has no plan to tackle.
