The police are supposed to protect and serve, but nowadays innocent people have to be fearful of law enforcement. Police in Ohio shot and killed a man for carrying an air rifle inside Walmart on Tuesday night.

They shot and killed him not even knowing if the air rifle was sold inside the local Walmart. John Crawford was only 22-years-old when he was gunned down by Ohio police after a customer in Walmart called 911.

The customer in Walmart allegedly told 911 Crawford was attempting to load the air rifle and point the gun at children in the store.

John Crawford’s wife said information told to 911 was completely false. His wife, LeeCee Johnson, said he was just looking at the gun and was on the phone asking her if he should make a purchase.

The police are reporting that John Crawford refused to put the weapon down. LeeCee was still on the phone when her husband was shot to death. His wife said they have two children, and she is now pregnant with their third child.

“We was just talking,” Johnson said. “He said he was at the video games playing videos and he went over there by the toy section where the toy guns were.”

LeeCee said she could hear husband screaming and crying for help on the phone.

Beavercreek police department spoke out and said the officers’ actions were justified because Crawford allegedly didn’t put the weapon down right away.

“BCI Investigators on the case report witnesses say the man was carrying a weapon Tuesday night inside a Beavercreek store,” according to a statement by Ohio attorney general Mike DeWine. “The weapon was an MK-177 (.177 caliber) BB/Pellet Rifle, manufactured by Crosman. It is known as a ‘variable pump air rifle.’”

His family said he didn’t own an air rifle. The police who shot him are now on administrative leave and the case is currently under investigation.
