Sultan Advises Military Against Being Used By Politicians

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has cautioned the military not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for sinister motives.

The monarch made the remark on Saturday, at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Alumni 18th Regular Course re-union held at the Sultan Maccido Institute of Quran and General Studies, Sokoto.

The Sultan said the military should remain apolitical and not allow politicians to use them for political objectives.

“The military should use their professional experience and knowledge for national needs and should not involve in politics or allow political leaders to use them to achieve their political goals,” the monarch said.

He noted that Nigeria was blessed with retired high ranking officers, who could use their experience in helping towards tackling the security challenge ravaging some parts of the country.

The monarch recalled that he joined NDA 18th regular course in 1975, saying the essence of the Alumni re-union was to promote unity and foster brotherhood among the retired officers.

He underscored the need for mutual understanding and tolerance, saying Nigerians should not allow politicians to create division among them.
