Azpilicueta Signs New Five-Year Chelsea Deal

Chelsea announces defender Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new five-year contract.

The 25-year-old Spanish full-back joined Chelsea from Marseille in August 2012 for a reported £7m fee.

Having made 27 league appearances in his first season under then-interim boss, Rafael Benitez; Azpilicueta broke into the first team last season as Jose Mourinho preferred him ahead of former England international Ashley Cole at left-back.

“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce Cesar Azpilicueta has today signed a new five-year contract,” a statement on the club’s website read.

He made 42 appearances in all competitions last season and was named Chelsea’s Players’ Player of the Year.

Azpilicueta made his senior international debut for Spain against Qatar in February 2013 and was a member of their squad at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
