LMC Backtracks On Decision to Banish Nembe City to Benin

The League Management Company (LMC) has rescinded its decision to banish Nembe City to Benin on account of pitch invasions by the club’s supporters during a Week 26 fixture against Lobi Stars.

The LMC ruled on Thursday it was sanctioning Nembe City to pay the sum of N500, 000 and to play their next three matches in Benin for the unruly conduct of its players, officials and fans.

It had said it found that the match against Lobi Stars was not concluded because fans invaded the Krisdera Stadium pitch in protest of extra-time penalty awarded by the centre Referee against the hosts Nembe City, which at the point of the incident led 2-1 by the 88th minute.

“Nembe challenged Omoku ban, now to play behind closed doors pending NFF O and D ruling. Parties informed Friday,” LMC tweeted.

Reports suggests that the Edo State Football Association, already host community to another Glo Premier League side from Bayelsa State, Bayelsa United, informed the LMC they will not be able to host Nembe City.

The LMC said the abandoned match will be concluded at a neutral venue on a date after the 2014 Federation Cup final. The match will be re-started from the time it was halted and with the same scoreline as at time of disruption.
