Man Kills Father Over Stick Of Cigarette In Edo

63 suspects were yesterday paraded by the Edo State Police Command in Benin.

The paraded persons include suspected armed robbers, child defilers and murderers, including a 25-year-old boy who murdered his father after a quarrel over a stick of cigarette he stole from his father.

The 25-year-old identified as Best Momodu, an indigene of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State confessed to the police that he killed his father in anger after he stole a stick of cigarette from him.

“I stole his cigarette and he found out. So he started shouting at me and quarrelling. So, mistakenly I took a knife and stabbed him. I have not seen the dead body but I heard he died. But the community people arrested me after I killed him.”

Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspects, admonished residents of the state to be vigilant particularly at the airports, crowded places, uncompleted buildings and to monitor their environments.

He declared that the police in the state had put up strategies to curb crime this ember months.

The CP also raised alarm over increasing number of cases of child defilers in the state and urged parents to be watchful, saying the activities of child defilers are not only worrisome but wicked.

“This is the beginning of the ember months, these are times criminals will want to reap where they did not sow. I want to thank the people of the state for their cooperation and I urge for continued partnership between the police and the public.

“If you observe anything around, report to the police, monitor all uncompleted buildings because that is where criminals hide.”
