Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney believes deadline day loan signing of striker Radamel Falcao is a “real sign of intent” from the Premier League club.
United and Falcao’s parent club AS Monaco reached an agreement to sign the 28-year-old Colombian on loan for the rest of season for a fee reportedly worth £6m with a permanent purchase option set to cost the former €55m (£43.5m) at the end of the season.
The deadline day coup, after all, raises several questions about coach Louis van Gaal probable team setup to suit what many have described as ‘galacticos’: Falcao, Rooney and Robin van Persie, with the likelihood of redeploying the England captain back to the midfield role he so much dread among suggestions.
Rooney is however not keen on such debate, preferring to focus on the impact the signing will have at Old Trafford.
“I obviously don’t know how it could affect my role, that is something you’d have to ask Louis van Gaal,” the England striker said when quizzed by reporters at a news conference on Tuesday.
“But I think it is a fantastic signing, he is one of the best players in the world.
“It is a real sign of intent from Manchester United and an exciting signing for us.”
