Mercy Johnson Okojie, popularly referred to as Mercy Johnson is an A List Nigerian actress. She became a household name when she made her acting debut in the movie, “The Maid” where she played the role of a house-help that had been possessed. After her successful debut, Mercy’s name graced the lips of everyone and she went on to act numerous other movies.
GROWING UPMercy Johnson was born in Lagos on August 28, 1984 and she is a native of Okene in Kogi state. She is the sixth child out of seven children born to Mr Daniel, a former naval officer and Mrs Elizabeth Johnson. She had her primary education in Calabar where she used to stay with her father, and then later at the Nigerian Navy Primary School, Lagos. After the completion of her primary education, she went on to study at the Rivers State Secondary School and the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, both in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, for her secondary education. She once shared that things were not exactly rosy for her while growing up as she once worked as a house maid to make ends meet.
Mercy once revealed that she found her way into Nollywood due to the fact that she failed her University entrance examinations. After failing to pass her JAMB exams, she resorted to auditioning for movie roles and that was how she got her first gig. Mercy has featured in over 60 movies till date and has featured in top movies alongside top rated actors and actresses including Desmond Elliot, Ramsey Noah, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde and Genevieve Nnaji. She is known for movies such as The Maid(2004), Keziah (2007) and Corporate Maid (2008). In November 2013, movie marketers threatened to black list her in Nollywood as a result of what they saw as her ‘high demands’.

Mercy Johnson Okojie was awarded the Best Actress at Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards 2013 for her splendid performance in the comedy film “Dumebi the Dirty Girl”.
