Student Gets 24-year Jail Term For Facilitating Exam Malpractices

A 20-year-old is set to spend the next 20 months of his life in prison after an Ikeja High Court found him guilty of the three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and examination malpractices preferred against him.

Abiodun Raheem appeared before Justice Kudirat Jose of the Court on Thursday for creating a website that facilitates examination malpractices.

He entered a plea bargain agreement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the anti-graft agency that arraigned him before the court.

EFCC counsel, Mr Mohammed Bashir told the court that Raheem conspired to commit the offences on Jan. 27 in Lagos.

According to him, the convict created a website which asked candidates sitting for the May/June West African Examination Council Senior School Certificate Examination to visit the website for help.

He said the website offered solutions and answers to questions at a fee of N4,000 to students who subscribe. It also contained the account details of the convict.

Jose sentenced him to eight months imprisonment on each of the count, following his plea. According to her, the sentences would run concurrently from April 1 when Raheem was arrested and detained for the offences.
